Mirage Networks Acquired
Trustwave, a leading provider of compliance management solutions, announced the acquisition of Austin-based Mirage Networks today. There was a mention in the Statesman blog about it, where the only comment on the posting is anonymous and says that most everyone had already been let go at this point. Our quick search of LinkedIn showed several people who still show the company as their current employer. The company had raised $33M since it’s inception in 2001. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it’s probably a safe bet to say that it was not north of $33M.
Mirage Network’s NAC technology will be part of Trustwave’s managed security services, which include UTM, IDS/IPS, secure e-mail, network security monitoring, vulnerability scanning, log monitoring and more. “Mirage Networks NAC technology and expertise in endpoint compliance and behavioral policy enforcement will complement our current suite of security services,” says Robert J. McCullen, chairman and CEO of Trustwave. “Malware that circumvents traditional security measures or results from insider abuse of network access is stopped with Mirage Networks patented NAC technology. More and more we are seeing a need for NAC among our customers and we’re excited to offer this solution to our customers.”
“Our research shows that managed security services are picking up steam as enterprises look for ways to reduce costs without compromising security,” says Paul Roberts, Senior Analyst for Enterprise Security at The 451 Group. “Managed NAC is the next stage in this evolution, offering enterprises ease of deployment and predictable costs. Mirage was one of the first companies to realize this. The combination of Trustwave’s managed services platform with Mirage’s expertise in managed NAC deployments and post admission security screening puts Trustwave at the forefront of MSSPs offering managed NAC, and make it a formidable competitor in what promises to be a hotly contested space.”
“We’ve built Mirage Networks into the leading NAC provider, offering patented technology that delivers the most advanced approach to securing business networks around the world. By becoming part of Trustwave — a global data security and compliance leader — we will be able to offer our NAC solutions as part of one of the most recognized trust brands on the market,” says Greg Stock, former Mirage Networks president and CEO, who will become Trustwave’s general manager of security services.
