Moximity Beta Explores Location Aware Services

Austin-based Moximity released a limited beta of their new mobile application on Thursday. The launch was celebrated at an amazing party at The Belmont after the TechCrunch Meet-Up. Moximity allows you to see restaurants, clubs, and other locations that are in close proximity to your location, and to broadcast your location to your friends via Twitter and Facebook. Moximity is also partnering with major music and film festivals to provide event details and to allow you tell your friends what stage or film you’re enjoying.
One of the great things about Moximity is that it’s not another social network. You don’t have to bother all your friends by inviting them to join Moximity, it will work in conjunction with your existing social networks like Facebook. The 4-minute video demo of Moximity will give you a quick overview of shows how the product overlays your social network on top of the place you go and the things you do.
Moximity has been getting some great press for the beta launch. There is a great story in The Statesman today. The writeup in VentureBeat talks about Moximity’s competitive positioning with Whrrl and Loopt, and the Washington Post notes that Moximity is the only social location-based service to monetize its offering.
If you’re interested in experiencing Moximity for yourself, we’ve got 50 beta codes that can be found here, so get them while they’re hot. Right now it is only available for the iPhone, but the Blackberry client is coming soon.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am an investor and advisor to Moximity.
