BreakingPoint Takes Down $15M Series C
![]()
BreakingPoint Systems is gaining some serious velocity in the market for next-generation network test equipment. Today they announced that they’ve raised a $15M Series C from returning investors Genesis Inventions and Austin Ventures, and some new investors. That brings the total capital raised to $28M since the company started in late 2005. We previously featured the company in a Q&A Wednesday and also covered the shipment of their first product.
"We could not have anticipated such overwhelming positive response to the product," said Des Wilson, BreakingPoint Systems CEO. "This latest round of capital will enable us to continue to focus on our product geographic expansion so we can provide our customers with the best network test equipment available today."
The company will use the funds to grow the sales organization, continue product development, and escalate manufacturing to meet demand for their products. The company competes with Agilent (which seems to do more work in the life sciences testing area), Ixia (who says they only test network layers 4-7), and Spirent (a diversified test equipment company). The company was able to disclose that Juniper Networks is a current customer, but there have been many undisclosed new customer wins lately.

Hi,
I’d like to know where you got the following statements from or at least how those conclusions where derived (especially the one relating to Ixia):
“Agilent (which seems to do more work in the life sciences testing area), Ixia (who says they only test network layers 4-7)”
The description meta information on the Ixia website contains the information about layer 4-7 testing. Info on Aglient comes from their products and services listing on their website, and their mission statement.
If you have more info, please share it!
